Dunigan seeks Senate Seat for 35th District

Roger Dunigan, an independent Democrat, is a candidate for the 35th District Senate seat in 2010.  He is a 36 year resident of Leelanau County.  For 30 years, he was the CEO of the Great Lakes Community Mental Health Authority, serving Grand Traverse and Leelanau Counties.  He is a licensed Social Worker and a licensed Professional Counselor.  Prior to his work at CMH, he was a Roman Catholic priest for 8 years.  He was a campus pastor at Central Michigan University.  He retired from CMH Services in October of 2003.  Since 2005, he has provided research, consultation and legal assistant services to a number of different law firms.

My professional life as a priest and mental health executive has been dedicated to service.  This Senate position is an opportunity to continue that role of being of service to others.  To win in the District I need the generous help of volunteers & donors. 

Ø  My main interests:

·         Environment

·         Education

·         Health & Human Services,

o   These items and other services are in peril until the budget and the economy are resolved.

 

Ø  My main goal is to solve the budget issues and improve the economy.

·         The MI economy will not recover until there is a significant increase of good paying jobs.

·         It is JOBS, JOBS, JOBS!!

 

Ø   We face serious problems in Michigan. 

·         MI leads the nation in unemployment at 15% (nearly 20% in 4 counties of the District) 

·         MI leads the nation in underemployment at 21.5%

·         MI had an estimated loss of 1 million good paying jobs, over the last 10 years

·        Inability of current Legislators to work together to solve the deficit of 2.7 billion dollars

·        Years of declinging revenues and no serious efforts to streamline government services.

 

The Legislature by not dealing effectively with the state budget and the deficit has again brought state government to the brink of disaster.  I will go to Lansing to represent the people so that together we can solve theses problems to help Michigan and the poeple get back on their feet. 

My ablilites as a good listener, a skillful negotiator and expert communicator will serve you well in the State Senate. I will work to return civility and respect to the political process.

The 35th Senate District covers 11 counties:  Benzie, Clare, Kalkaska, Lake, Leelanau, Manistee, Mecosta, Missaukee, Osceola, Roscommon, and Wexford Counties.
